Overview

Orvieto is one of the most memorable hill towns of Umbria.
Easy to reach by train from Rome or Florence, the city is located on a stunning steep hill made of tufa volcanic rock overlooking the charming “Paglia valley” below.

Your walk in the city centre will take you to see Etruscan remains, the ruins of the city’s medieval fortress and of course the famous Duomo.

The Church of St. Andrew is an admirable example of the Romanesque style, embellished by the adjacent twelve-sided bell tower. The imposing tripartite tufa facade features, at the apex of the wide entrance staircase, a red marble portal. The latter is embellished by the lunette with high-reliefs of sacred figures, introduced with the 1926 restoration mentioned just above.
