Activity itinerary

Archaeological Museum of Sparta
  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Our first stop is the archaeological museum of Sparta. The findings here are rich and are from the Neolithic to the Roman times. Parts of mosaic floors of unique beauty are displayed, that decorated the luxury villas and the public buildings of Spata during the Roman period. Most impressive are the objects of the great sanctuaries of Sparta that are exhibited. Also, a prominent exhbit in the museum is held by the burial gifts from the Mycenaean graves of Pellana, which were found at a rich cemetery that had been discovered. That tour will travel us back in the history of the region.
Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil
  • 1h 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
During our stay in Sparta we will also visit the Greek Olive Oil Museum. This is a unique experience, since we are going to be introduced to the culture, the history and the technology of olive and olive oil production in Greece, from the prehistoric times up until the beginning of the 20th century. We will see exact replicas of Prehistoric, Hellinistic and Byzantine olive presses and all the stages of their development to engine powered presses. Also, art exhibits that show how olive influenced the art in Greece during times. The objective here is to highlight the ineffable relation of the olive with the identity of our country.
Archaeological Site of Mystra
  • 2h
  • Admission ticket not included
Just 5 km from Sparta is Mystras, our next stop. The castle on top of the hill, with the battlements and towers, was founded by the Frankish in 1249. Since then, the castle town was reinforced and occupied by the Byzantium empire and the Ottomans. It was one of the first castles of Greece to be liberated in 1821. A place with long history that will unfold under our steps. A place that is included in the Unesco World heritage List. In the end of our tour, we will have free time to have lunch, in the village under the castles, at one of the traditional taverns before we head back to Nafplion.
