What you can expect

The guided tour of Treviso will take you to the Venetian town famous for its typical culinary products, from Prosecco to radicchio up to tiramisu, the famous dessert that seems to have originated right here. Our visit starts from the largest church in the town, the Temple of San Nicolò, one of the most important examples of Gothic style in Italy with large naves and walls decorated with precious frescoes, restored after the bombing of the Second World War.

From here we move towards the heart of the town visiting the Cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo, built on an early Christian temple with an imposing facade with columns and steps in the neoclassical style inside which you can admire several famous works including the painting of the Annunciation by Tiziano. Next to the Cathedral stands the Baptistery of San Giovanni. Walking through the streets we discover the most important street of the town, Calmaggiore, originally the Cardo Maggiore from the Roman era which connected the two centers of power, the spiritual one of the Cathedral with the political one of the Palazzo dei Trecento.

Today it is an elegant street full of shops and frescoed buildings for a nice walk under the arcades whose main attraction is the copy of the Fountain of the tits, a small fountain with a bust of a woman used in the past for celebrations with red and white wine. The tour continues with the visit of Piazza dei Signori dominated by the three most important buildings of the town such as the Palazzo del Podestà which was once the home of the Podestà and his family and today is the seat of the Prefecture.

Behind it is the Civic Tower, the highest tower in Treviso with its particular structure and next to it we can admire the Palazzo dei Trecento built in 1210 taking its name from the 300 members of the City Council. The imposing building with its red brick arches is one of the examples of Romanesque architecture in the town and still hosts the meetings of the city council today. A few steps from Piazza dei Signori, the meeting point of Treviso, we discover the Loggia dei Cavalieri with its elegant arched structure built in 1200 to allow the nobles to participate in board games and meetings.

We move to the Buranelli Canal, one of the most romantic places in Treviso where you can admire the most beautiful views with the elegant buildings overlooking the canal, the reflections on the water and stroll among the many shops and restaurants until you get to Pescheria Island, where our guided tour ends, one of the most famous and characteristic places of the town. The small island on the Cagnan canal is connected to the centre by two bridges and takes its name from the ancient fish market that takes place every morning: here you can still admire the Mulino Pescheria, one of the oldest mills that was used to clean up the water from the square.
