Crockets on the Quay is situated on the estuary of the River Moy just outside Ballina. It takes about thirty minutes to reach on foot from the town centre. The eight apartments are adjacent to the main premises but separate from it, so that guests are free to come and go without having to pass through the restaurant or lounge. I was in Ballina to run the River Moy Half-Marathon and Crockets is the ideal place to stay, being about 300 m from the start-finish line and registration.
When I arrived, I was shown to my room and given two keys: one for my room and one for the main door to the apartments. For the remainder of my short stay I was left to look after myself.
The room was satisfactory for a brief stay. There was a bathroom with a bath and an electric shower. The bedroom had twin beds, which were comfortable to sleep in. The linen was fresh and clean. There was a small television but no Internet access. The only window in my room was a skylight, which admitted plenty of light but had no blind.
Breakfast was not provided.
The restaurant was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a wide variety of dishes. The menu was well laid out. Allergens were clearly listed and there was a good selection of gluten-free dishes. The portions, however, were very big. My three-course dinner filled me like a Christmas dinner. My main course - Crockets 50/50 - had enough in it for two adults.
Check-out is 11-12, but I left early, leaving the keys in my room.
