Doves Rest Cabins - Maverick cabin on the North rim

This charming 1,200 sq. ft. 2-bedroom cabin with an additional luxury pull out queen sofa bed can sleep four (4) comfortably. Wood burning fireplace and dramatic canyon views situated on the Palo Duro Canyon North Rim make for a quiet getaway from city life.

Situated on the storied and historic Marshall Ranch, moments from the entrance to America’s most beloved State Park – Palo Duro Canyon, Maverick Cabin is a destination on most traveler’s bucket list. One of the best features of the lovely view from this cabin is the proximity to the sheer edge of the canyon wall. Flint scrapers and arrowheads can still be found on this grouping of North Rim Cabins. The site where these cabins were constructed was used by Comanche’s as a “butchery,” and nearby Buffalo Draw was where the Indians drove buffalo over the cliff as a hunting technique.

Blending the West Texas legendary ranching past with the relevance of Americas second largest canyon, this cabin is sure to engage the senses and captivate the imagination of our guests. Longhorn Cattle roam the adjacent pasture and the steep margins of the canyon view consist of bright, banded layers of orange, red, brown, yellow, and white rocks that represent four geologic periods. Modern but rustic, this cabin is immaculate and fully furnished.

This is an amazing place to stay! The property is quiet and beautiful. We loved the barbary sheep. The views are incredible! The house is perfect, clean, comfortable, and great views from the porch. I couldnt ask for a more perfect stay!

Our family celebrated Christmas there. We rented three cabins for the 16 people in our group. Everybody loved the cabins and the area. Management was very responsive to requests such as extra chairs for our family dinners and having groceries and snacks delivered. We do these family trips frequently and this was the best rental experience.

We loved our stay at the Maverick Cabin, at Dove’s Rest Resorts! The on site manager was very friendly and helpful, I believe his name was Garland? The place is amazing and so comfy. We had a great view! The horse corral just outside our cabin was a great benefit, we could just walk out the cabin to check on our horses! We already can’t wait for our next stay!

Maverick was delightful! It has appealing colors and decorations in a wonderful setting. Extras, such as 6 K cups and hairdryers, were provided. The beds are comfortable. The best parts are the setting close to the Palo Duro canyon rim and watching Audad sheep frolicking on the opposite rim. Such fun.

Spectacular views and quality living
This property sits right on the western rim of Palo Duro canyon and offers spectacular views of the canyon. Inside the house, you'll find first-rate living accomodations. Everything is clean and comfy. The property is just minutes away from the entrance into the canyon, and lots of other related attractions. If we're ever in the area again, we will DEFINITELY stay there!

This rental was beautiful and well supplied. The beds were very comfortable. It was amazing getting to open up the blinds & be able to watch the sunrise from bed over the canyon. It was a perfect location for hiking at Palo Dura, just a few minutes away. The town of Canyon was very close & easy to go get food. We were even able to have pizza delivered one night. They warn you ahead of time about the flies, so don’t be surprised about them. I would definitely stay here again it was perfect.

Best View Ever!
My family and I absolutely loved our stay in the Maverick cabin at Doves Rest Cabins! The view of the canyon from this cabin is AMAZING. My family and I spent most of our time sitting in the rocking chairs on the back porch enjoying the view. We actually cancelled a few plans that we had made so that we could spend more time relaxing on the porch! The cabin is a quick 5-minute drive to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, so it was super convenient to go hiking and see the Texas show. (We could see the fireworks from the Texas show across the canyon every night.) We cooked all of our dinners at the cabin, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The cabin is so cute on the inside - just as pictured in the listing - and the perfect size for my husband, two kids, and I with its two bedrooms and two spacious bathrooms. We loved watching the sun rise over the canyon and the mountain goats exploring on the rim. My kids really enjoyed the swing set and park available for guests, too. The owner gave helpful information in the welcome packet and stocked the cabin thoughtfully for our stay. We have stayed at close to two dozen rentals in the past few years, and Maverick cabin stood out above the rest for its views. We have already recommended Doves Rest Cabins to our family and friends planning trips to Palo Duro Canyon State Park; we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an outdoorsy vacation coupled with an out-of-this world view and a relaxing, quiet stay in a cabin on the rim of the canyon. Thank you again to the host for letting us stay!

Peaceful stay with incredible view
Peaceful, off the beaten path, well appointed cabin on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon. Loved the wildlife we could view from our porch (Barbery Sheep going up and down the opposite side of the canyon) and the sunsets. We definitely plan to return!

This place was amazing! The back patio views were stunning! It’s so peaceful and relaxing. Loved sitting in the rocking chairs soaking it all in! This place provided all you needed plus more for your stay! Bed was super cozy which is a plus! The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is bc we found hairs in the bathtub of the guest bathroom! We didn’t shower in here so we dismissed it and just enjoyed everything else about this amazing place! Highly recommend!
