Really friendly staff and a great central location. Rather noisy at night with the windows open due to goings on outside the hotel.

The staff were really friendly and nice, the reception area of the hotel was lovely and bright and modern along with the bar and restaurant. Our room was quite outdated, which is okay but what made it not the most pleasant experience was that there was no air conditioning. The room boiled day or night, our window would only open a crack, which barely helped but if you wanted the window open you then had to hear all the ruckus coming from the bar across the street which went on into the early hours. The train runs right out the window which makes the room shake when passing by and the alley below was busy and noisy. It’s an old building so if someone is walking around the room above you it was like they were dancing across the floorboards. The hotel is by no means bad and they cannot help all the noises coming from outside, and we wouldn’t of minded them either, if air conditioning was installed we could of had a more restful night instead of being left exhausted from lack of sleep due to the heat and noise. Thank you.

Upon arrival on June 26th, I was advised there would be a charge (security deposit) of 100 euros, which would be returned upon departure. I am still waiting for this money to be returned on July 16th. Is this a scam?

We had a great 2 nights here . They gave us a lovely room for our wedding anniversary, which was in the old part of the hotel. The only downside is that because it's near the bus station and train station there are many homeless people. Which going in & out they did hassle us a few times.

Pros and cons - still worth it
The location of the Beresford on the edge of the City centre is extremely convenient - this was great for a long weekend walking around the city, which we loved. Unfortunately, depending on the room you are given the hotel is right next to both a train and tram track, which go to around 12.30am each night, which can be quite distrubing. The room was clean and okay but the mattress needs to be replaced, unfortunately most of the support had gone in the middle and we rolled into the middle most night. The building is lovely, well doecorated and kept very clean. However it is a very old building so the floorboards all around the rooms and hotel squeak and creak. We were woken up by the room upstairs at 4.30am as they clearly got ready to check out because the floorboards and banging was so loud. This could be mitigated but guests have to be self-aware enough. The breakfast at the hotel was really lovely, well worth adding to the room. It has various options but it's kept hot and fresh, with servers providing fresh tea and coffee as well. The staff are really helpful and attentive as well - so all in all we would give this 4 stars - we probably just needed a different room.

The staff were friendly and stored our luggage, assisted with directions, etc. There was no hairdryer in the room. The set up of the hotel is very strange, we were in room 535 which appeared to be a different building only accessible via the first floor, so had to go up to the first floor to go along and then back down but there was no quicker route to the street/reception etc. the decor in these rooms was old and tired, wasn’t what we were expecting from the photos. We were told this was a “quiet” room so not sure how noisy the rest of the hotel was. The area has a lot of homeless people and doesn’t always feel safe, I certainly wouldn’t want to walk around on my own in the evening.
