Espiritu Santo Holiday Packages

As the Vanuatu chain's largest island, Espiritu Santo holidays offers some of the region's best all-around touring, with exceptional diving, great beaches and many natural wonders to explore.

It's a great starting or ending point for Vanuatu island-hopping, and its sheer size makes it perfect for a memorable holiday on its own.

Things to do in Espiritu Santo

Espiritu Santo holiday packages truly put nature at your doorstep. Wander the trails of the 220-hectare Loru Park, or hike through the Vatthe Conservation Area to enjoy some of the island's rainforest. Guides can take you on multi-day treks into the rainforest to stay in indigenous villages, or you can venture out on your own through the 50-m high Millennium Cave or to the top of Mount Wimbo.

Water-lover? Embrace the great diving and snorkelling along the coastline. The sunken behemoth SS President Coolidge is a prime diving spot, as is the pile of bulldozers and trucks that were dumped off Million Dollar Point at the end of World War II. Rather stay on dry land? Chill in a beach chair or at picnic table at Lonnoc, Golden or Champagne Beach. Many of the island's resorts offer kayak rentals, as well as serving as departure points for fishing guides. One of Wotif’s Espiritu Santo car hire options can open up all of the island's possibilities, so claim your wheels and get driving!

Shopping, Dining, & Nightlife

The best shopping on holidays to Espiritu Santo is in Luganville's outdoor market on Main Street, open every day except Sunday. In addition to produce, vendors sell handicrafts, clothing, spices and locally produced coconut oil. If you’d rather accessorise, try the small shops further along Main Street between Rue Dumont d'Urville and Rue Paul Gauguin, or the gift shops at resorts along the island's ring road, many of them well-stocked with products from across Vanuatu.

For authentic local cuisine, wander the streets of Luganville near the water, especially those between the Sarakata River and the small Main Street post office. You can also drive up the island's east coast, where small restaurants and food trucks service the island's best-known beaches. Fresh fish is always on the menu for Espiritu holidays, and it doesn't get much fresher than raw. Be sure to try the kokoda, a South Pacific salad made by marinating raw fish in lime and tossing it with spices and coconut cream. Yum!

Much of the island's nightlife is also centred around Luganville's Main Street, and mostly in a few thumping dance clubs. Quieter entertainment can be found in some of the town's smaller cafes, as well as in kava bars, where locals and tourists partake of the South Pacific's favourite legal (yes, legal!) opiate. If you're unfamiliar with the drug, keep in mind the local saying, "One nut is not enough, and three is too much," and take heed, brave traveller: Kava on Vanuatu is said to be more potent than that produced elsewhere in the South Pacific. Espiritu holidays, like anything in life, go better with a little (but never too much) moderation.
