My choice of this hotel was based on the number of stars given by everyone who left review, property condition was very poor and looked like needs renovations and updates to meet the 8.8 out of 10. How this hotel has got so much points with its popcorn like ceiling, motel looking rooms, holes under the doors and poor quality soaps in the bathroom. “The grotto” looked ok but everything around significantly showing signs of wear and tear, outdated. The smell of the chlorine wasn’t inviting to stay there too. Beds and towels were clean, it didn’t have carpet on the floors and people were nice. Ok, we were there for the beach… we loved it.

The staff was great! The resort was doing some maintenance so maybe that interfered a bit with the ambiance. The menu in the main dining for lunch was extremely limited, this was my biggest complaint. Overall I would recommend it to a family on a budget. The pool areas were great!!!! And one of the pools is heated.

The Grotto pool was nice and had options for adults and kids for extra events. Ocean changed every day. Water accessible to drink in lots of places.

Loved the pools, front desk (especially Diamond) were fantastic, room was clean and beds very comfortable. The only thing negative about the Island at Fort Walton is there is not enough SHADE. There are NO umbrellas at either pool and with a temp of 96-98 degrees, you need some shade.

The pool and swim up bar were excellent. Yet when we arrived they held $250 on top of what we already paid for the room for parking and other fees and I was unaware of extra charges till arrival. The rooms a/c did not keep up we were miserable at night with the air not going below 74. The hotel beach chairs and umbrellas were also an extra charge. Overall for what we paid in total we could gave rented a condo for the same price. Will not book here again.

I had only one lil issue and it was probably my fault for not informing the head desk,,, I'm disabled and it was difficult getting up and down the stairs at the island and was not aware there was no elevator otherwise wise I would have asked for ground floor I called before making reservations online and couldn't get any one

This place is a gem! Splurged for the beachfront roll and it was worth it for the views each day. It’s clearly an older hotel that’s undergone renovation, so some areas are still a work in progress. However, you can’t beat the location directly on the beach. Room and property were extremely clean, staff always pleasant to deal with! We loved it for our first time to the area, easy/cheap to Uber to Destin for dinner or Crab Island day trip. Walked next door as well for other shopping and dining options, but you wouldn’t have to leave the property if you didn’t want to. Plenty of onsite food and dining options that were reasonably priced… including the Grotto swim up bar!

The only negative is that our room overlooked the Cabana pool and at night people in the pool were hollering and screaming until around midnight, and some of us need to sleep. I know this would be hard to stop, and I’m guessing that maybe some alcohol could be a cause, anyway I doubt that I’ll be back but a nice place otherwise with a good staff.
