Quick stay
We just did a quick overnight. The house was quaint and met our needs for the night. The listing indicated a garage and there was only street parking. Other than that, it fit what the listing indicated.

Cozy & Convenient
Sleeps 3-5 easily if you share the main beds. Pellet stove very easy to operate and can heat the entire place. Plenty of pillows for the beds and lots of throw pillows too. Quiet location, diner around the corner. Coffee maker, hot water kettle, stove and microwave. Powerful shower if you like that sort of thing. Nice backyard courtyard to hang out in if the weather is nice. Washer and dryer are a nice plus as well. I’d definitely stay here again.

Truly a quaint cottage - but spacious enough for two couples. Well appointed - everything you need is there. The beds were comfortable, it was very clean and the garden is fascinating with it's variety of plants. It is an interesting little place!

A wonderful cottage at the gateway to the redwoods
This sweet cottage was just what we were looking for on a weekend trip to visit the Avenue of the Giants. Adorable vintage feel (including a claw foot tub!), comfy beds and an enclosed garden space. Great communication with property manager, wonderful hospitality and a cheerful and welcoming vibe. Would stay again!

Sweet spot…
Small, charming cottage with a lovely garden area. If you have mobility issues, getting into and out of the (wonderful) old claw foot tub, necessary for bath or shower, can be a challenge, but otherwise comfortable. Great host responsiveness.

Very close to Redwoods
First impression wasn’t great because there were quite a few sketchy people hanging around and many of the nearby properties are run down. It was pretty warm when we arrived but once we found the window ac in the first bedroom, that helped. Once we sat in the back garden and enjoyed the peace and a glass of wine we started to feel more safe and comfortable. I would like to recommend a hair dryer - if it was there I never found it. Wine glasses would be a nice addition too :). All in all we really enjoyed our time at Mary’s Cottage and found it very close to the Redwoods which was our reason for coming. Thank you!

Small cottage in Garberville
Mary’s place is clean and comfortable. Very rustic but to be fair we spent very little time in Garberville. We attended a family reunion at Humboldt State Park about 15 min away. It was super easy to check in with keyless lock.

Excellent place to stay in Garberville
Very charming place and served our needs well! The backyard garden is a great place to gather. The house accommodated two adults and three children. The washer and dryer helped us stay on top of the laundry. Tami and the rest of the team do a great job of maintaining the house and making you feel at home!

Historical and Mystical
This is a beautiful old house filled with Garberville history. It's quaint and charming filled with your basic necessities yet has the modernity of killer WIFI! The beds are comfortable and the linens are soft. The host is attentive and responsive and takes exceptional care to make sure the place is welcoming. There's a fruit garden you can eat from and a health food store across the street; a win- win!! I look forward to spending additional time there in the future.

Great beds in a charming setting
Tami was an excellent host. We were allowed to check in an hour early and found it extremely easy to do a self-check-in. The house was charming and very clean. The beds were a dream and we slept like babies. We were able to walk all around town, and to three excellent restaurants (Cecil's, Woodrose Cafe, and Humboldt Bar and Grill). There were a few minor glitches. We found four drinking glasses in the cupboard that were quite dirty. I alerted Tami to the problem and, given the cleanliness of the house, I'm sure she will fix it in the future. Neither bedroom is super private. One is off the kitchen without completely closed-in walls, and the other has glass French doors off the living room. That said, it worked fine for my husband and me, and the other couple staying with us. Given the rundown state of Garberville, the property seemed a little overpriced. We rented with a few days' notice and were happy to find something nice and clean at the last minute. But we felt the price might be dropped a bit to be more in line with its surroundings. All in all, however, we enjoyed our stay.

Adorable cottage with private garden. Perfect location to explore lost coast.
Ended our California vacation at this lovely cottage in Garberville. Traveling with our dog, this was his favorite spot. The garden was a wonderful place to eat our breakfast and plan our day's adventures. To return to and sip wine in the evening while marveling about our days in the majestic redwoods and beaches of the lost coast. Clawfoot tub and gas cooking were a plus! Having the natural grocery across the street, and the location close to so many quaint towns and attractions makes Mary' s cottage a place to remember and return to!

Charming, great location, beautiful scenery
Wow! This little house and the surrounding town stole our hearts. The house is small but the space is used very well, and we never felt crowded. The beds are comfy, and a window a/c unit has been installed and the house was kept cool. We were not hanging out at the house at the hottest times of the day, but the overall lack of a/c was something we were worried about. The backyard is adorable with patio lights hanging from the trees, and a little table to enjoy outdoor meals of coffee. If you are coming like us from the city, don’t miss the beautiful starry skies! Garberville has all you need in walking distance. Most establishments required masks which was welcome, because that wasn’t the case for many surrounding towns. The health food store couldn’t be more convenient, but there is also a larger super market close by. Food at local restaurants was tasty. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Enchanting cottage, slightly sketchy town.
Much like those before us, we did overall enjoy the stay. The cottage itself is clean, well equipped, and the backyard is like a small food forest oasis! Definitely could use one more a/c, but I’m sensitive to heat so others may feel fine, and it did cool off well in the evening. The food shop directly across the way is full of great health foods with vegan and gluten-free products. We had issues with the code at check in, the host responded as quick as they could but in the hour time we waited several things happened that made some of my family want to hightail it out of town (interactions with some of the drifters in the area) and personally I was appalled at VRBOs lack of customer support. The 24/7 “questions answered” is totally bs. There was no support via phone or email for us. Understandably this was not the fault of our host and once we did get into the location all was well.

Plenty of Charm and Character to Appreciate!
I'll start by saying that we ended up having a really nice stay at Mary's Cottage, despite some initial anxiety upon arrival. We needed a location to visit Shelter Cove, the Humboldt Redwood Reserve and parts of Mendocino County. Mary's Cottage was available and Garberville was central. Our immediate observation when we arrived was some of the local vagrant activity stationed in the park directly across the street. Not quite having the same daily experiences that I think is more common to the locals, we were a bit concerned about it when we arrived our first evening. However, we had no issues at all and were more at ease the next morning and as we stayed. The most obvious thing when walking in is that the cottage is 100+ years old, so plenty of charm and character to marvel at. However, it was also very clear that the owner(s) have made quite an effort to try and provide the most accommodating environment possible without any major renovation. Most importantly, we felt it was clean and it had plenty of amenities. There is no AC and we really didn't want to attempt to open the windows, but the cool evenings and the fan that was provided made it comfortable. Our bed was very comfortable as well. One teenager slept on the daybed, the other in the other bedroom. The water pressure in the "old school" bathtub/shower was super - just be aware that your shower will go cold momentarily if someone uses the hot water in the kitchen! The back patio was wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves out there one evening with drinks and listening to the tranquil water fountain in the midst of some impressive gardening for such a relatively small area. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Cecils, multiple breakfasts and lunches at The Local Flavor and did some food shopping at the organic market conveniently located directly across the street! Seems like people really know each other in this small town, and it was fun to hear about some of the history and connections associated with Mary's Cottage from some of the locals during conversation. Overall, we really did have a good experience and enjoyed our unique accommodations for the relatively short stay we had in town!
