Cottage on the lake
We had such a nice stay at House Eagle Cove. The cottage was clean, had all the modern amenities, and the lake was only maybe 20 steps from the back door. We're already planning our next trip back ;)

Very Nice Quiet Clean Place
A perfect place normally for me, as it has everything I normally seek. Because there is no tv service, and I would paddle in the early morning hours before it got hot and the wind caused waves, I was typically back at the cabin by 9am or so. Had 12+ hours to kill, as I hadn't planned on leaving the cabin except for 1 day, but that could increase if I got called in to Mahone Bay... So, I saved plenty of work to do on my laptop and internet, and planned to look for hotel rooms for my 3+day drive back, look up restaurant reviews, things to see and do on the way back, and perhaps day trips from the cabin if I found things of interest. Unfortunately, due to storms, the internet towers were down and there was no internet - and therefore, I couldnt do work, research, find things to do, etc. and was dead in the water as they say. I had to drive into Bridewater every other day, to Dairy Queen to get wifi/internet to get work done and a few other things internet related. Due to the lack of wifi, the days were very long, I couldnt communicate with those who were supposed to send text, call, use messenger, whatsapp, etc. to keep in touch with me or to have me go into town for possible important meetings, etc. Had I known there was no internet available, I might have cancelled as I had lots of things of importance to get done as I had just planned on doing this during the late morning, afternoon and evening every day to occupy my time. Could only read for so long.....

Highly highly recommend
Was the most perfect honeymoon. It definitely is a piece of heaven on earth. Beautiful cabin. Love the decorative pieces of birch throughout the house. Absolutely love the pebble paths in the back leading to the firepit area and lake. Nice large deck to relax and enjoy the scenery. Listening to the sounds of nature every day is Serene...the daily loon, the evening frog, the chirping of the birds and even the frequent visits from the chipmunks made it even more magical. And watching nearby boaters and seadooers is always entertaining. The fact there were essentially no pesky bugs was fantastic. I thought for sure we'd be bombarded with mosquitoes and horeseflys, but not a one. Only the presence of dragon flys and of course the typical little camp flies, but no big deal at all. Pretty much everything you need is there from laundry soap to umbrellas, to an iron and board. card and board games to outdoor fun such as Babington. And of course the canoes to explore the beautiful lake. Thank you Holger. It was perfect. We hope to get back in the future.

Beautiful View
We had booked our vacation months in advance and little did I know that I would become sick one month before we were to go. Two surgeries later, I was cleared to go and when we arrived at the property, the view was absolutely gorgeous and calming. Unfortunately, something personal had come up and we had to leave with a couple of hours of getting there and did not spend the night. Knowing that the host and left that morning and probably traveling back home, I emailed him to let him know what happened and that he fulfilled his obligation on the rental and that we fulfilled ours so there was nothing neither of us could do or have planned. I appreciated his genuine care for us and if we are out in that area again, we look forward to coming out there and staying in the cabin and enjoy its beautiful views.

Great spot to relax
It is a perfect cottage to enjoy the nature. The community is nice and the access is fine if you have a suv. You can access with a sedan but you must be careful in some parts of the lanes. The cabin is great and has everything you need. Very nice views and very relaxing areas. In general I had a good time there.

Quiet seclusion
We stayed for 4 nights at this lovely cottage on Ponhook lake. Enjoyed the views, canoeing and laying in the hammock or sitting on the deck reading. It felt like a much longer rest because it was so peaceful and quiet. The layout of the cottage is excellent with laundry and a full kitchen!! Would love to have more time to investigate this lake….. it is huge with many nooks and crannies to discover.

Sanctuary
If you’re looking for serenity, simplicity and the beauty of nature all packaged with home comforts, this is a place for you. If your idea of nightlife is utter stillness and silence and dark skies, this is a place for you. If the sounds of fish jumping, birds going about their lives and mysterious sounds in the undergrowth make you smile, then this is a place for you. If finding your way home through a labyrinth of gravel roads feels like an adventure, then this is a place for you. And if it’s not a place for you, don’t worry at all, it is one for me! Thank you so much Holger for sharing HEC with us.

Want to get away from it all? This is the cottage to do it. The three of us (me, my husband and our university-aged daughter) stayed for four early Sept. nights. Love the open concept kitchen/living room. View of Ponhook Lake and the setting itself is beautiful, even on a rainy day. We loved having a rainy day, to be honest—we all a chance to slow down, read, play Monopoly, and sit by the fire. The next day, we enjoyed an afternoon hiking at Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct and dinner in Liverpool at Lane’s; but otherwise, we made full use of the very well-stocked kitchen. We also took one of the canoes out a couple of times and explored. And one clear, crisp and starry night, we had a fire in the fire pit and gazed at the Milky Way. Spectacular. Also very cool watching a float plane come in for a landing nearby (took me back to my childhood days living in the far north). We will be back, only will stay for at least a week. Four days just wasn’t enough. My only suggestion for the owner is to perhaps have a memory foam layer topper for the mattresses. We both like a fairly firm mattress, but we found we had to add some blankets underneath us, to cushion things a bit. Both beds had the most firm mattresses I think any of us have ever slept on. That said, I know it’s difficult to find mattresses that please everyone. If you like a firm mattress, you’ll be extra-thrilled. I will add that the place was immaculate. Kudos to the housekeeping folks!

The directions getting in to the cottage were vague and difficult to obtain. I should have asked the owner as it was a challenge. Really enjoyed the cottage though. There is a great deck for relaxing and a nice (small though) BBQ. Everything worked well and we had a great time.

Relaxing lakeside retreat
This is a classic cottage with a lovely lake view. Access to canoes, a swing, and a fire pit make this a great spot for a fun family get away. At night you can listen to the loon calls as you watch shooting stars over the lake.

Would go back if it was cleaned properly
After our visit and before posting this review I emailed the owner twice with no response. Quite disappointing. Hi Holger, Thank you for allowing us to spend a few days at your cottage. The lake is so beautiful and the canoes allowed us to spend the day exploring the little islands😀 Just a couple of items to note. When I called the housekeeper to tell her of our expected arrival time she seemed surprised to hear from us. I am assuming she wasnt aware from her tone of voice and also as the cottage was alittle dirty so perhaps she hadn't had a chance to clean before our visit. I thought I should let you know that the windows were filthy and the range hood over the stove had grease on it and many bugs stuck on it. The kitchen drawers need a cleaning and some dishes were in the cupboard dirty. The right hand patio door is sinking and I believe the wood is rotten underneath. The dryer is not venting properly and may need to have the vent cleaned out. The oven is acting up and the bottom burner seemed to have difficulty regulating temperature. Also one of the benches by the fire is rotten as well. I hope you are having a nice summer in Germany. I can imagine when Covid has settled down that a trip over to NS would be on your agenda 😀 We also went to Paul's restaurant in Liverpool and it was fabulous! Take care Shannah Hynes

A secluded paradise
We were very pleased with the beauty of our surroundings in this secluded paradise. Everyrhing was available for my favourite ways to relax: canoeing on a beautiful fairly quiet lake.- there are many islands so something to see around every turn We laid on the lounge chairs at night star gazing (where are the mosquitoes?) Spent a quiet time every morning sitting out on the Adirondack chairs looking at the sparkling lake with coffee in hand. And of course the hammock in the shade of two large pine trees (afternoon nap). If you enjoy relaxing like I do, you will enjoy this place!
