My room was a little dated but fine. The property is well worn from lots of visitors, but a walk through the park is always a plus!

The actual Lodge check in area was nice, cozy and quaint. The staff in the Lodge were very friendly, nice and helpful. The cottage (#42) we stayed in was roomy with a comfortable king bed, and a sleeper sofa. The bathroom was very dated. The blinds in the bathroom were filthy. The carpet was stained and dirty and the floor was sloped and not level. The grounds around the cottages need maintenance. We can deal with dated rooms, but the lack of maintenance and dirtiness is a game changer…especially for the price we paid.

A little rundown in the sense that your cabin may be a little dusty, and there are dead flies at the windowsill. The back “porch” could definitely be swept off but overall a pretty good approximation of what an old cabin might feel like. Bonus is there is no wifi or internet, making a down to earth family even worthwhile.

We got a room that was off the main property. Since it wasn't ready when we got there, we didn't get checked in until after dark. Terrible lighting to find our room. Nearly fell walking into the room due to poor lighting and we hadn't seen the place previously. Bugs in the room. We didn't realize that there wouldn't be a TV or a microware. The room was in major need of a paint job. No wi-fi and the community room was not open. A lot of money for so little. Food was over priced and then we had to throw it away because of no microwave.

I might go back...maybe.
The stay was great. No WiFi in the room which was perfect for our stay. We needed to unplug. We couldn't check in until 1½ hr later than we were supposed to. 6 hr drive so we just wanted to settle in. We got an apology. Fair enough. During our 5 day stay we didn't get any turn down service. Didn't mention it because we got back late from a full day of being out and about. Some fresh towels what of been nice. I took the trash out myself but a new trash bag at the bottom of the bin would of been thoughtful. Ergo this review and rating.

I liked the property/lodge overall. Restaraunt, coffee shop and gift shop were great. There are some trails nearby the lobby, plenty of parking, and good overall location next to other trails and restaraunts. I’d say that’s about where it ends. I thought the lodge was very overpriced for what you got. Very basic cabin, didn’t feel very homey. Bed was not uncomfortable, but also not comfortable. I didn’t sleep too well. Not entirely sure the heater in our unit worked, although it may have been something I just did wrong. Ultimately what turned me off was the pungent smell of marijuana that seemed through the walls of our cabin overnight, and woke me up from my sleep. I get that marijuana is legal in California, but I shouldn’t have to smell it if I don’t want to within the confines of the cabin I paid nearly $500 a night to sleep in. The smell makes me super nauseous and I felt like it was in my face. There is zero wifi on this property with the exception of the conference center. No service in lobby or hotel rooms. I didn’t really care for that. No TV in cabins either. I also felt like the staff generally were not very friendly. Young man at check in and a middle aged man at the coffee shop were a bit surley. I also did not care for the late check in time of 4 pm. I barely got to “enjoy” being in the cabin. So — overall I’d say this is a great place to stop in and visit, but not stay. Maybe if it was cheaper, that would take some of the sting off all of the negatives.

The surroundings are gorgeous. The lodging was comfortable but could really use a bathroom update and new paint. It’s remote and very quiet.

What I liked about the property is that the room was large with high ceilings. Opposite of that, no AC, the high ceilings had Cob webs everywhere, every corner- wall space- furniture had spiders on it. And before you think “it’s Big Sur, woods” - well if I wanted to stay with bugs I would have camped. My husband and I started to count spiders as a joke when we first started noticing them, but by the end of our stay we counted over 30. Towels weren’t clean, had blonde hair stuck to them… I have black hair. Also, if I wasn’t wearing my glasses I wouldn’t have seen the tiny spider spinning off the towel. We have a baby and needed to use the refrigerator , only the fridge wasn’t usable, it wasn’t cold enough milk went bad. Thankfully only stayed there one night. This place could use some upgrades and TLC.

We slept really well here; it was so quiet. People were welcoming and nice. The refrigerator was very small and the door wouldn't shut properly. Also, it would have been nice to warm up the food I bought with me. Loved being able to sleep in a room and be able to see the trees from above and around. Really liked the balcony too. No WIFI which is a real plus for me. It felt natural and serene.
