Holidays To Pennsylvania
We’re not sure how much you know about Pennsylvania, but it’s a pretty magical place—home of the Hershey’s chocolate factory, origin of the mighty cheesesteak and spawning grounds of both Will Smith and Taylor Swift.
Add amusement parks for the kids with dramatic natural landscapes when you need to get out of the city and you’ve got everything you need for trip that will satisfy every traveller in your crew. Book one of our holidays in Pennsylvania and explore this wondrous land for yourself!
Things to Do in Pennsylvania
As one of the original 13 founding states in the US, Pennsylvania has a reputation for making history. Get your fix for revolutionary factoids in the state where the nation’s Declaration of Independence and its Constitution were both drafted. Don’t forget to hit Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where you can enjoy fine dining and world-class entertainment (including the Philadelphia Orchestra) on your Pennsylvania holiday! But we know where your heart really lies: with chocolate! Make your way to Hersheypark, a theme park built around the all-famous chocolate bar. It’s right near Hershey’s Chocolate World, so you can get the full sugary experience. When you’ve filled up, head to the great outdoors to work off your indulgences. World’s End State Park is a stunning, sprawling preserve of the region’s forests and wildlife. It’s considered an Important Bird Area, which must make the native ruffed grouse feel very nice. You’ll also find the Poconos and Endless Mountains here, which are not actually endless, but do add an extra layer of charm to the state’s untamed spaces.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
You know what you need to squeeze in somewhere between the chocolate park and the bird-watching? A little shopping. Head for King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, about 30 km northwest of Philadelphia. This is one of the largest shopping centres in the United States, so you’re bound to find pretty much anything you need here. Of course, you can’t shop in Pennsylvania without heading to Lancaster County. Snag one of our great Pennsylvania car hire deals and head to Dutch Country to round out your Pennsylvania holiday with handmade goods and lots of antiquing action.
Hungry? So are we. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have just about every kind of food you could want to stuff down your gullet, but add some flavour to your adventure with iconic local snacks like Tastykakes, Primanti’s sandwiches and Birch beer. The oldest brewery in America, Yuengling, still produces beer here and it’s available nearly everywhere you want to stop for a pint. No holidays in Pennsylvania are complete without one!
Speaking of pints, once the sun goes down the big cities really come to life. Stick to Philly and Pittsburgh if you’re looking to party until dawn—you’ll find heaps of nightclubs and bars over on Liberty Avenue in Pitt. Downtown Philly has a huge club scene, particularly on the avenues surrounding Broad Street. Not into jamming with electronica? That’s okay. Kick back at one of dozens of relaxed pubs and swap stories with locals and fellow travellers.
