We have expanded our vacation rental offering to include guests access to professionally designed hiking and mountain biking trails on our 345 acre mountain which is bordered by an additional 80 acres of BLM.

Serene get-away, nestled in the southern Rocky Mountains, with spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains from the deck, living room, and loft. Relax in the 4-person hot tub enclosed under west side of deck, enjoy the mountain views and the stars at night, firepit for atmosphere and smores! Large deck with patio furniture, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, TV viewing area, kitchen, dining room, and living room with mountain views. Hike the property and enjoy the nature and wildlife.

We consider ourselves stewards of the land and offer a choice to our guests to recycle, use 'paperless' paper towels and cloth napkins instead of single use paper products, and add to our compost. :-) Options while staying include purchasing foodstuffs from our neighbors such as organic free-range eggs, honey, and organic greenhouse vegetables. Grocery delivery, and home cooked meals are available for a fee from one of our neighbors. We want to assist our mountain community by providing opportunities for the community to serve you with (very) local choices and suppliers. If you are interested we will provide additional information, pricing and scheduling of these services.

Prohibited: smoking indoors or on trails (local fire regulations), drones, trespassing and use of other properties on the ranch, motorcycles, atv, utv, fireworks and firearms.

We live in a remote, peaceful, quiet area where everyone values their privacy. Accordingly drones and trespassing are strictly prohibited. A $200 fine will be imposed for either.

=====
We use sunlight (line dry laundry) in addition to other cleaning methods and products (alcohol, bleach solutions, detergent and hot water, Thieves essential oil cleaners, ....) doing our best to present our guests with a clean and healthy vacation rental stay.

"The (COVID-19) virus dies quickest in the presence of direct sunlight," said William Bryan, science and technology adviser to the Department of Homeland Security which is one of the reasons we use a clothes line for linens - also to do our bit to walk gently on the planet. :-)

The CDC recommends employing ventilation as part of the cleaning process, accordingly we open all windows and doors to allow maximum fresh air and sunlight after a guest group have left the house.

After thorough cleaning, e.g. alcohol wipe down on all doorknobs, light switches, faucet handles, toilet seats and flushing handles, etc. we have implemented the following:

- Soft/porous surfaces
- rugs and floor mats: after cleaning are placed in the sun (weather dependent)
- living room couch, loveseat, chair, ottoman, couch cushions and couch pillows:
- spray with 70% alcohol-based spray

- Hard surfaces are also spray with 70% alcohol-based spray after a thorough cleaning.

We welcome and appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on improving our cleaning and disinfecting practices.

Thank you.

Beware
Review: BE AWARE. This house is located on 13.5 miles of gravel off the main road and is a good 45 minute drive to anything. The view is beautiful however you are not renting the entire house to yourself. Owners live in the basement. The fire pit is right by the entrance to their part of the house, the hot tub and their porch/ dining space is only separated by a curtain. We did not care as we were not needing the privacy however some might. There were several inoperable windows and also missing spindles. Owners also falsely accused us of damage and tried to conveniently collect almost the full deposit.

Great spot to relax. It’s a bit of a drive off the main road, but that just adds to the feeling of seclusion. Amazing views! Host was very responsive, would recommend.

Beautiful Location! Nice house
This house is in an awesome location with incredible views of mountains, very isolated, so quiet and peaceful! The house itself was great, the pictured hot tub is not functional. However, there is a separate enclosed hot tub that is available to use. We were surprised that the owners Were staying in the downstairs area, somehow we thought they would be in a totally different location and not in the same house. The only complaint is the trash incinerator being used while we were there one of the days producing an awful smell that came directly into the house as there is no heating or air conditioning- so windows remain open most of the time which, for the most part is a good thing. The owners are super friendly and nice, but very slow to response to texts, usually the next day. I did have all the comforts of home, including spices toiletries, cooking items that we usually have to bring with us at VRBO’s. That was much appreciated!

Indescribable by words...
When I rounded the corner into the driveway of Michael and Joyce's I was overwhelmed with emotion. There are no words to describe the awe inspiring views or the complete peace I had during my week long stay. During one of my walks on the mesa I came across a Lord of the Rings inspired project they have been working hard to complete for people to come and stay...it is incredible!! I can't wait to see the finished project. I truly believe it will be a destination for everyone to visit. Michael and Joyce were a joy to be around and left nothing to be desired. I may be home now but I know where I left my heart.

Magical stay
We had an absolutely magical stay for a quiet weekend getaway. The house is remote, the views are breathtaking, the saltwater hottub is hot, and we decided to give cooking a break and the owner, Joyce, made delicious meals for us (Greek lunch - best chicken soup ever; pot roast for dinner; and the absolute best coffee cake we have EVER tasted). We even got to help feed the chickens, and took some eggs home with us, which our kids loved. We’ll definitely be back. Such exceptional hosts and an exceptional property.

Breathtaking views, incredibly quiet mountain retreat
If you are looking for a quiet mountain getaway with stunning views this place is a dream! It's on top of a mountain with miles of unobstructed views. Quietest place I've ever been. Zero noise from roads/neighbors. No light pollution, can see the milky way! Joyce and Michael are super helpful and sweet while giving guest plenty of space and privacy. Tons of space inside, clean and well appointed, feels homey. Keep in mind, it's a long way from the nearest store, but we saw this as a bonus and planned accordingly. Also, Joyce helped arrange for her neighbor to deliver an incredible meal the first night. A wonderful experience, I highly recommend!

Incredible location
My wife and I were so impressed with the views and location of this property. The drive in alone from the main highway is incredibly scenic and significantly compliments the overall experience of staying in this home. We enjoyed the location and community so much that we are seeking land in the area ourselves. I overlooked the portion of the description where the hosts live on site. However, that is my fault and not the host, and we were not bothered or inconvenienced by them at any time during our stay. Very comfortable bed, high speed Wi-Fi, and serene views at all hours of the day (even at night). We hope to be back soon!

Prepare to be amazed at the breathtaking views!
If you are looking for a stunningly beautiful, remote mountain getaway, this is the place! The home is gorgeous, has everything you need, and the hosts are friendly and helpful. The hiking trails on the property are well-developed and maintained. Don't forget to download or print up all of the directions, including the gate code, before you head to the property because you will not have signal, as Joyce says in her detailed instructions. Also, unless you like to sleep on really thin pillows, bring your own to have a comfortable sleep. New pillows would be our only suggestion for improvement! We can't wait to come back someday!

Breathtaking
We did a weekend trip to visit the Royal Gorge and do some white water rafting. We were looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy the mountains. Well, we found it. This place was just perfect. Off the beaten path, up on the mountain, with sweeping views of mountains and valleys. The house was well appointed, clean and well stocked. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.it is about an hour from the nearest town and about 40 minutes from the a Royal Gorge bridge and activities So it’s important to plan accordingly so you don’t have to run out for anything! We will absolutely go back again and try to spend more than two nights there. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Great view with attachments aka owners
Firstly the property view is breathtaking. The owners were easily reachable- we were snowed in one day, visibility was very poor and it is around a 45 min ish drive to get down the mountain which at times is narrow and requires a slow and careful decent, be back at property before dark. We were 4, my husband and my 2 college kids- my daughter last minute was able to make the trip. When I booked I reserved for 3, as soon as we arrived Joyce made note that we were 4 and the reservation was for 3, it was abrupt and after a day of travel from Texas it was not the most welcoming as we were unloading the car. She charged us for the 4th person and I paid. The main issue I have with this listing is the disregard for privacy and transparency. I will admit I missed the part of the owners being on site, it is further down in the booking detail and easily missed. It should be the first thing listed. We would hear things at night and one night in particular close to 10pm we saw the husband roaming the property. At any given time people were visiting the property. The last day even more random people on the property. There is a door in the kitchen that connects the two levels. We could hear the owners whispering right on the other side of the door-was very uncomfortable. The second shower doesn’t work, the keurig didn’t work-review from Megan H also hits on most of the same issues we had. Numerous post-it’s everywhere of what not to open or access. Property could use some updating.
