Our room did not look like most of the room photos. It was in a separate building from reception and smelled musty. The bathroom was super tiny and the shower curtain practically touched the front of the sink. Great view of the church but very noisy late into the night.

Location is great. Fact that the TV did not work and the staff did not attempt to help past saying we’ll make a call and never following up was disappointing. Also the water smelled bad. No other hotel(s) in Iceland that I’ve visited had smelly water.

Stay at the Hotel Leifur Eiriksson
The Hotel Leifur Eiriksson was very accommodating of us, we had to book 2 nights as we were coming in early in the morning and wanted to be able to access our room immediately which the hotel made happen. The rooms are comfortable, if a bit small. Coming from the US we expect bigger rooms I think, and the pictures make the rooms look bigger. I think to some extent if you are in a double like ours was if the beds are together the room seems bigger or apart seems smaller. That said they were certainly clean and the beds exceptionally comfortable. If you want to be somewhere convenient, at the top of the city, great view of Hallgrimskirkja, and convenient to bus stop 8, then this is the place.

Hotel rating in Expedia was very high , hence I went by that . Size of bathroom was so so compact that shower curtain would stick while taking shower , and lighting was horrible - I felt I lived in dark room . Bed was so small I felt I would fall down while sleeping ! I would have never went for this hotel if Expedia rating was not misleading :( as it was non refundable , I could not change hotel !

The check-in process was swift and efficient, thanks to the helpful front desk team who ensured that all my needs were promptly addressed. Throughout my stay, their friendly demeanor and willingness to assist made me feel right at home. One of the standout features of Hotel Leifur Eiriksson was its immaculate cleanliness. From the lobby to the corridors and, most importantly, the guest rooms, every corner exuded a sense of freshness and hygiene. It was evident that the housekeeping staff took great pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, which contributed significantly to my overall comfort and satisfaction. The hotel's location was also a major plus, offering convenient access to all attractions, dining options, and transportation hubs. Whether I was exploring the city or simply seeking a quiet retreat, Hotel Leifur Eiriksson provided the perfect base for my adventures. However, one aspect that slightly detracted from an otherwise excellent experience was the temperature in the room. Excellent location and very helpful staff. We ended up needing to add a night to our stay and the hotel was extremely accommodating and even made changes so we did not have to change rooms for our extra night. Only downside was the water in the room had a sulfur smell / taste to it which was unexpected.

Great hotel for the price. I don’t understand why room 408’s ceiling is right on top of your head. There needs to be more room. It’s like an attic with a bed. My husband and I aren’t picky and like a good hotel for a reasonable price, but room 408 should be storage for them not a room. The shower is interesting too. Since the floor gets all wet since there’s no separation between the bathroom and shower. Nice central hotel.

Great location. Very convenient to bus stop #8 for tour pick ups. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a nice bonus with a good selection. They also have tea, coffee, and hot chocolate available all day. There is a room for luggage storage if needed. Only negative was bathroom size was very small. I definitely recommend this hotel.

We only stayed for one night and we had a church view. The location is great, the staff is very nice. However, that bathroom reminded me of being on a cruise ship. It was also the only place I took a shower where the water smelled like sulfur. I wouldn’t stay here again. There are much better places in Reykjavik.
