Cool hotel, definitely a passion project for the owner. Don't be thrown (like I was) by the fact there was nobody in the lot. People park behindbthe hotel. Great location. Hotel owner very friendly

Nice little place tucked away in the Redwoods. Nothing fancy, but clean and quiet with an interesting history and easy access to Santa Cruz. The check-in attendant was very pleasant.

Heck yeah! Brookdale Lodge!
I absolutely love staying here and had the hardest time leaving. It’s beyond beautiful in the Santa Cruz mountains and especially where Brookdale Lodge is located. Only a 25 minute gorgeous drive down to Santa Cruz. Plenty of local restaurants and convenient grocery stores too. Outdoor activities galore. They have their own awesome entertainment at the Lodge on the weekends, a restaurant, a bar and even a convenient store on site. The folks that work there are incredibly nice and accommodating. Comfy beds and peaceful nature all around. Don’t pass up staying at such a magnificent place. It’s a wonderful experience and I’ll definitely be back.

Not what pictured on website...
We chose this location as a birthday weekend, because of the photos on website and offerings they had there, because we were going to be in the middle of the woods and we wanted to not have to leave the hotel for dinner, and wanted to have a beautiful grounds to walk around while there. We had a long motorcycle ride to get there, checked in and then were disappointed to find out that the bar where the live music was at, was rented out for the evening because of a high school reunion. We asked about how we could get to the building on website that shows a huge Lodge/open area w/a waterfall and rock fireplace and high ceilings, nice sitting areas. That was closed to public as well, for being remodeled! Not only did we have to drive 20 mins to go somewhere to eat w/ the very limited options in that area, we could not go anywhere on the property that was worth seeing, that made us choose them. The only place to eat was a red/white 50s themed Diner that we were not interested in, had nothing to do with the outdoorsy/look and theme that the lodge has itself which is one of the reasons we chose it. I was very very unhappy about paying over $300 for 1 night for nothing that I had anticipated or what I chose this location for. I decided to hold off on placing review and sent an email to the front desk manager asking her to contact me regarding my disappointment to see if they would give me a partial credit on the room and nobody has contacted me yet.

My stay in #223
The stay was over all a good experience. There were a few thing that i should point out. in my room #223 there was a constant humming sound from some motor or something that for some could cause irritation but i can sleep through anything so i was ok for me. I found a half eaten fried chicken leg under the side of the bed, (Don't know how that was missed in the cleaning of the room because it was big) There was a weird smell in the room from the cleaning products, I believe that they use, and the coffee maker overfilled the cup spilling everywhere. (Good thing there was a tray under it to catch all the overflow.) The shower curtain was not wide enough to fully close thus letting water out all over the bathroom floor. The lounge restaurant was closed for a high school reunion so that was back luck for me. On the positive the bed was probably the most comfortable bed i have ever slept in. Over all it was a nice stay and would defiantly go back again

Just because the place is old doesn’t mean it needs to be old looking. Balconies have old, established cobwebs. Why? This is just a matter of sweeping/wiping the balconies. We keep our shoes on when walking in the hotel room. God only knows when they clean the carpet. This hotel has so much potential but the owners are choosing to half-ass the refresh. We stayed over a holiday so the rooms were hella over priced. We only stayed one day while passing through the area. There’s no way we could have done more than one day. The site shows a stream running through some part of the property. Uh, not sure why since there’s clearly nothing like that on the property. There is however, a tattoo shop and a convenience store if you need it on the first floor. The staff was wonderful, kind and helpful. That is the only thing that saved this property from no stars.
