Me and my wife loved our stay here. We came for the Christmas market and this was the perfect location with just a couple of minuets walk. Our room was amazing and had everything we needed and more, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was beautiful, one of the best breakfasts we've had and having it served in our room was and very nice touch. We'll be visiting again.
Lovely hotel in great position next to the cathedral. Room very comfy and food and drink excellent.
Best thing about this hotel were the staff. All had great attitudes, friendly and open manners and very professional.
Many thanks
This was a beautiful historic property. Literally right next door to the Cathedral and the market / shopping and tons of restaurants and cafes. Very large rooms for Europe with sitting areas, coffees, tees and non alcoholic drinks stocked in fridge. No lift available for hauling luggage but staff was great to help if needed. Beds a little on the firm side but lovely linens. Breakfast included and restaurant quite delicious. Would definitely rebook here. Easy access for Uber as well!
Enjoyable stay, wonderful big room. Great location
Another good stay at the Old Vine. Warm welcome, great room and breakfast included. So close to Cathedral, shops, places to eat. I wish they had a car park, as parking permit is only available from 3pm.
Beautiful place, characterful bar and dining area, clearly popular as it was very busy on a Wednesday night! Room lovely and clean and huge!!!! Highly recommend this place!
A great place for a relaxing visit to this beautiful city of Winchester. Our large top floor room had lovely views across the Cathedral and town. So central, yet so peaceful. Walkable to just about anywhere here, including the railway station.
A quaint old pub, with great accommodation and a very hearty breakfast included. Room facilities are excellent.
Would recommend attending an Evensong service at the Cathedral… a great and spiritual experience, which doubles as an opportunity to explore this ancient Gothic masterpiece. We did this, with a bonus of a recital on the famous “Father Willis” organ.
We were allocated the Allwyn & Little room which we assume is the
Deluxe Double Room, 1 Double Bed, Ensuite, City View which we paid £179 for.
Room was spacious but the bathroom was tired. Damp on the walks, black mold on the window frames and a previous guest body hair in the bath and on the bath mat. Bed was very creaky.
The hotel is old ( which we knew) but does not have double glazed windows. We were woken at 3/4/5 by vehicles outside loading and unloading and managed to get back to sleep at around 5:30am only to be woken again at 7 by the council jet washing the pavement outside our window for 40 mins. We decided to get up and go for a walk as the noise was unbearable. There is no information anywhere that says the room may be noisy, nor did I find any guest reviews advising this. We must have been extremely unlucky. This is not acceptable when paying £179 for a room in any hotel.
The hotel description says that there are views of the cathedral & green. We could not see the cathedral or the green as there was a huge tree outside the window.
The kettle in the room had not been emptied from previous guests and the cupboard that house the condiments was grubby and had tea & coffee stains on it.
The breakfast was good and spent around £180 on drinks & food during our stay.
I am in the hotel business and am meticulous about where I stay when on my personal travels. This was not a good stay and compensation is due as we did not rest.
The family apartment at The Old Vine where we stayed was an excellent accommodation. It's located in a separate building from the pub. There's a lot of space over 3 floors - the photos don't do it justice!
The lounge is very cosy with a large sofa bed and armchair. The table in the lounge is suitable for doing work on a laptop etc. The WiFi connection was fine as well.
The location of the apartment is very central - right next to the cathedral green, the city museum and the high street with lots of restaurants and shops. Other attractions (such as the hall with King Arthur's round table and the National Trust water mill) are within a walkable distance.
The breakfast menu options are very generous, and the pub has good food options throughout the day.
It was nice to be able to park the car in a space recommended by the host (detailed instructions are given) and enjoy some car-free time for a couple of days.
We can't wait to go back to Winchester to explore it further, and The Old Vine will be our first choice of accommodation - to stay either as a couple or as a family.
