Berlin Holiday Packages
The capital of Germany, Berlin is home to a thriving arts scene, cultural destinations and shopping districts. Berlin packages are a great way to see everything the city has to offer, from the uber-impressive museums throughout the city to the old-world charm of the historic downtown Mitte district. If you fancy a holiday destination with a diverse collection of sites, Berlin is it.
Things to Do in Berlin
Holidays in Berlin are an opportunity to dive into art and history while exploring a thoroughly modern city. Once you arrive, be sure to spend time at the East Side Gallery, which is the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall. Today, it’s decorated with murals and is seen as a sort of living art project. If street art isn’t enough for your itinerary, remember, Berlin is home to some of the most-visited museums in the world. The Pergamon Museum, a collection of artifacts from antiquity, is a must-see, housing reconstructed buildings like the Pergamon Altar. At the Alte Nationalgalerie you can get up close and personal with Romantic and Impressionist pieces. Next, visit the Ancient Egyptian section of the Neues Museum to see ancient Egyptian artifacts dating back to 4000 B.C., just in case you had a hankering to see a sarcophagus.
Berlin has also perfected the art of renovating abandoned buildings. For example, the renovated barge near a disused bus depot is where sunbathers gather during all seasons, while a former 1990s department store has become a haven for art and design enthusiasts. (That said, don’t go stomping through every old warehouse in town!) Getting around Berlin is easy thanks to its efficient public bus system, but we don’t blame you if you’d rather get around on your own time. Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
Is your credit card at the ready? Bring it to Karl-Marx-Allee ("KMA"), a boulevard that stretches from Alexanderplatz Station to Frankfurter Tor. It was originally built to represent "socialist-realist" aesthetics of East Germany in the Soviet zones of Berlin, but now the best of European department stores line the street. Shoppers will also delight in the stores along the Friedrichstrasse, one of the main thoroughfares.
All that shopping is bound to work up an appetite, and whether you prefer German cuisine or international fare, you will never go hungry in Berlin. The neighbourhoods of Mitte, Prenzlaur Berg and Kreuzberg are the best stops for a variety of dining options. Relax at small local establishments, or visit the larger restaurants tucked away in hotels.
When you’re ready to kick up your heels, head over to the Hackescher Markt area in Mitte. From this square you can view Museum Island across the Spree as you sip a late-night beverage or dance the night away with friends.
