Holidays To Perth
Western Australia’s capital is a city of museums, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and parklands drenched in sunshine.
With wine regions and beach towns only a drive away, you won’t have to go far for a day in the surf or a sip (or whole bottle) of WA wine. Book one of our Perth holiday packages and see for yourself what Perth is worth. HistoryPerth was occupied by the Noongar people for over 40,000 years. The region’s first settlers arrived in 1829, led by Captain James Stirling. Perth became a penal colony in 1849, accepting over 9,000 convicts over the next 16 years. Gold was discovered in nearby Coolgardie in 1892, leading to a gold rush and a population boom. Things to doFor one of the biggest and most impressive inner-city parks you’re likely to come across, wander into Kings Park. Here you’ll find the Western Australian Botanic Garden, which comes with more than 3,000 species of native plants – including some you won’t fire anywhere else (hipsters, this is your chance to check out plants that other people have probably never even heard of). You can cycle past palm trees and catch impressive views of the city as you do so, take a walk through bushland or picnic with the family.Visit attractions like the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, and Scitech, an interactive science museum and planetarium. Perth Zoo and the Aquarium of Western Australia are great if you’re an animal lover (or have kids, or both). If you like icons, the Perth Bell Tower might just ring your bell. Opened at the turn of the Millennium, this spire-topped tower looks almost futuristic. But the attraction it contains is very historical indeed: the Swan Bells. Out of these 18 bells, 12 are from St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church from London’s Trafalgar Square. Drop in for a visit during ringing time.Only 30 minutes’ drive away from Perth is Fremantle, a lively and artistic port city where the Swan River flows out to sea. You can watch the sunset on a calm swimming beach, drink a cappuccino on “the Cappuccino Strip” (also known as South Terrace), visit the Fremantle Arts Centre, and explore the maze of underground tunnels at historical Fremantle Prison. And you can’t come to Perth without checking out WA’s wine regions. Margaret River has hundreds of wineries and vineyards, and a coastline of superb beaches too. Closer to Perth, Swan Valley is WA’s oldest wine region and has 40 wineries, many of them family-owned, plus cafes and award-winning restaurants.Shopping and diningThe shopping scene in Perth ranges from pedestrian malls like Murray Street and Hay Street, to the fashion houses in West End, to Fremantle’s weekend markets. Perth’s food is similarly diverse and delicious too. You can dine at a winery on the banks of the Swan River, eat seafood by the sea or fish and chips on the beach, dine al fresco at a cool café or bar, or taste something new in a multicultural restaurant.Getting hereWrap up your Perth accommodation and flights in one package with us for the Perth-ect holiday.
