Needs alot of repair work. Bathroom has a doormat instead of a bathmat. Sink taps too small. .tight to sink. Jnfortunately pur room was facing the High street and rowdy noise and swearing all night. Homeless sleeping in doorway opposite. Single glazed. Bed comfortable & clean. Fan in room good

We had two separate rooms at this property- one that was newer in terms of being refurbished and the other was older. The newer room was quite nice, the older room was ok. There is no AC but the rooms had a fan which was fine considering how cool the evenings were for us. The hotel is quite close to a number of bars and there were a substantial amount of very drunk people stumbling along the roads which didn’t make for the nicest evening walk but if you are into pubs you would be set. It’s close to a number of restaurants and overall was an acceptable stay. The staff at the front counter were top-notch.

They made me wait an hour and i had to reassert myself. Then i got a room in the back with view of parking lot. Construction next door and delivery trucks started at 5am.

The best thing about this hotel was the gentleman on reception, he was polite, and helpful telling me where the nearest restaurants were and supplying extra tea, milk and a hairdryer for the room. Unfortunately the rest of the hotel was tired and shabby in places, the windows were cracked, the bed creaked with every movement, the matress was saggy, the pilliws were lumpy and it is the first time i have had the toilet in the shower cubicle!!! The wash basin was by the bed. The wardrobe door wouldn't shut. There was constant noise till 3am from staff at the nearby weatherspoons dumping rubbish smoking and talking. There were even two people talking outside in the hotel carpark at 1am. Needless to say i will not be going again or reccomending it.

Weekend at The Star Hotel
The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was superb. The room was lovely. My bed was very comfortable, just very creaky though when turning over (my mum's was great) The bathmat seemed like it needed changing. To be honest I generally thought these were changed with each guest, but this felt like it wasn't.

Overnight stay to see a gig at the Guildhall...excellent location for that. The hotel is generally a little tired - I was tired that night and slept well, but my daughter and her partner sleeping across the corridor were less happy with their bed, finding it uncomfortable at best...
