Definitely leaning into the faded glamour trope. I bet this place was THE place to stay in the 90’s. Now it’s still lovely but the wallpaper is warping (not a metaphor but it could be). Look, I would happily stay there again but it could do with some maintenance.

Our room was a good size. The toilet was in a separate room off the large bathroom which had a separate bath and shower recess and double wash basin.. The reception/ foyer , dining area and indeed the whole hotel, felt warm and was welcoming with its antique furniture and paintings. The hotel is within walking distance to Circular Quay, the opera house and The Rocks area.

The Sir Stamford is like stepping back into the gilded age! Ornate oils on the wall, rich furnishings and gilded mirrors. Lovely atmosphere, marble bathrooms are beautiful ( although perhaps the hand held shower could be improved- the bracket would not hold the nozzle in place). Staff were friendly and professional.

Sir Stanford was an excellent choice as it was located within walking distance to many of the city's attractions and dining facilities.

There was no mini bar in the room even though was stated on facilities when booking. Poor lighting in the room and sensor lights didn't work in the bathroom. Cob webs where visibile on the ceiling in the room. Fridge and air conditioning weren't working properly. Fridge not cold and airconditioner could not adjust setting even set at 19 degrees still went back to 23 degrees.

It has a nice older world charm and spacious rooms although showing its age. The room staff do a great job servicing the rooms and the beds are very comfortable. The gym could use a bit of care and updating.

This property is very well situated, with easy access to Circular Quay and the Opera House. Wonderful staff and very clean, our only fault was the television, we were unable to access any channel except ABC.
