Our Waipu accommodation places you in the heart of a town with a remarkable story to discover. The founding of this small coastal town came about from a historic journey that traversed half the globe and took over thirty years to complete.
In the early 1800’s a group of almost 1000 set out to create their own Gaelic speaking Presbyterian community under the guidance of Reverend Norman McLeod. The Reverend’s vision was achieved in 1854 when these Scottish immigrants arrived at Waipu and created a settlement which thrived on fishing farming and ship building.
Today the history of Waipu is proudly remembered and celebrated each yeah at the Highland Games, stay in one of our Waipu hotels to experience this event held over the New Year holiday. The town also has its own Waipu Museum that explores the story of the town and its original settlers.
Our Waipu accommodation has plenty of outdoor attractions as well with its brilliant coastal location on Bream Bay offering excellent surf beaches at your doorstep. Soak up the sun, cast a line from the shore or hit the water with a board. Or stay completely dry and take one of the many excellent walks along the coast for panoramic views of the Bay.
One of the other excellent attractions not to miss during your stay in our Waipu Cove Accommodation is the Waipu Caves. They are accessible to the casual visitor and are home to a glow worm population that create mystical light patterns and reflections on the walls of the large limestone walls of the caves.
