Our stay was great! The hotel was close to the train station, shopping, sites, and several great food options. The staff was friendly. The only issue for us was the noisy bathroom fan that turned on every time the bathroom light was on. It had a horrible sound. That said we would stay again.

Centrally located yet quiet Judges Court
Judges Court is excellently located to enjoy the centre of York. It is set back from the street, so it is quiet despite its central location. It is an interesting historical building with a complementary, quirky design scheme. We were very comfortable. There were a couple of issues that perhaps were unique to our room - the bathroom fan sounded like an air raid siren. This amused us but probably not any neighbouring room when we had to get up at 6 am. The coffee maker in our room did not seem to work properly. However, there was a kettle, so we just went with old fashioned instant.

Lovely quirky little hotel tucked away amongst the shops but has so much character from the decor to the little touches of a coffee machine and kettle with complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Would highly recommend and definitely stay again.

Weekend in York
We stayed Fri/Sat night in mid October in Room 11 which was up the main staircase and one of the rooms used for the judges - so super high ceilings and plenty of room. There was a coffee maker and plenty of tea/coffee/hot chocolate in the room as well as some biscuits - no wine/yorkies as other reviews mention but no complaints either! Room was comfortable - but did get super warm during the night, not quite enough to put the fan on but that was available had we wanted to use it. We didn’t have any issues with the cleanliness, bathroom was fine and no problem in the bedroom either. Hotel is really well positioned for exploring York - minutes away from Betty’s, the Shambles, the Minster and the Golden Fleece. Only minor feedback we had was my partner decided to buy a couple of bottles of beer from the hotel fridge one night when we came back from our wandering (there is no bar/restaurant on site - think other reviews are getting mixed up with Judge’s Lodgings which is down the road!) and he was told they both had to be opened before he could bring them up to the room - which when he then decided he didn’t want the second one meant it was wasted as it had been opened so we couldn’t just stick it in a bag to take home with us. Other than that we were more than happy with our time at Judge’s Court.

It was so convenient to be able to walk around the ciry without issues. Parking was a pain so travel light as you have walk about .5 miles to get to hotel on cobbled streets. It wasn't awful but just annoying. Dont expect anything else other than a room. Very limited amenities. It was quiet, and comfy.

Cool vibe, historic building, no elevator
This place is great if you don’t have limited mobility! Service of night staff excellent and helped bring our bags up to the third floor with small staircase—It is a historically old building with wood beams and a courtyard to walk through to get to the hotel from the street. No parking on site as in pedestrian area—that walk to car park was .6 miles away—again difficult with a cane. It was close to everything in old town York—7 minute walk to The Shambles, 40 seconds to nearest Starbucks, and all the sights/shopping was within 5-7 minute walk. The hotel has a cool theme of being in Judges’ court with gavels for coat hooks and each room named after a different judge. Cool stay—would have been great had I been in my 30s and not with a cane.
Our room—wood beams are on third floor! Pick a room in lower floors if you can!
Weird dungeony shower on third floor to get to the plumbing. But cool vibe.

Overall very comfortable stay but not sure my room met a 4* rating. Bedding was clean and good quality. Furniture could do with some TLC and room needed painting - lots of scuff marks on walls. Mattress was big and overhanging bedframe, just seemed a bit tatty. Bathroom was modern and well equipped. Molton Brown toiletries! Great big shower but was slippy when wet and fan was very noisy and went on for ages after light switched off. Could also hear fan and person / tv in next room. Rm 16 was on the top floor, stairs were narrow but to be expected in this age of building. Room was very warm but again expected since on top floor. Good value for what i paid, would definitely stay again but a little bit of love would elevate the experience. Staff were efficient and pleasant.
