Things to Do in Turkey

Settle in at one of our Turkey hotels and set out to explore Istanbul. The Hagia Sophia is an obvious stop on any trip. This Christian basilica turned Muslim mosque turned national museum features an impressive dome and is considered an important bastion of architectural heritage. Next, visit the nearby Topkapi Palace, the former residence of many Ottoman rulers. The Ottoman Empire ended in 1923, “re-sultan” in the palace's transformation into a museum. South of here, you can visit the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, more popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the colour of its tiles. Women, take note: It's “ta-blue” to go in without a head covering.

Touch down at Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST), which is just about 20 km west of the city. You can access the city centre via bus, metro or private cab. Once in Istanbul, get around the city using its network of metro, bus, tram and boat lines (it's best to keep a map on you).
