Great location. Staff were great. Within walking distance to downtown and many restaurants. Adjacent to Stanley Park. Only negative is old carpet in rooms and hallways.

The Sylvia hotel has an outward old school historic charm and is in an incredible location with English Bay straight out the front door. That is the only reason to go there. The rooms are old and worn. The TV doesn’t turn on, the beds have not been replaced for at least a decade, and the decor is from the 70s. Parking is not included, and the nightly rate (once all the fees are added) is outrageous given its dilapidated state.

Having a holiday within "history" is always fascinating as you think back to the changes the hotel has seen. The Sylvia Hotel is a great place to stay if that idea interests you.

Lovely old hotel with a great outlook towards English Bay. Impressed with the restaurant menu. It’s also reasonably walkable to most places or there’s buses handy.

There is everything to like about this hotels. It woukd be my go to place if i was ever back in Vancouver. Built in 1912 opposite the beach it doesnt have Aircon but rom does have a ceiling fan and windows that open.

A hidden gem!
We booked this trip last minute and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice! The Sylvia Hotel is full of old time charm and sophistication. From the moment we entered the lobby, we felt as if we had stepped into a by-gone era. The wonderful black and white photos of days gone by, the friendly welcome from the front desk staff, and English Bay beach just steps from the door, we knew that we had stumbled upon what felt to us like a hidden gem. As expected by the age and history of this hotel, our standard king room was small in comparison to larger, newer hotel rooms, but it was by no means cramped. Well laid out with windows that actually open to let in the sea breeze, it was perfect. The bathroom is small, reflecting the era of the building, but has everything needed for a relaxing stay. As for cleanliness, the housekeeping staff do an amazing job. Our room was spotless and inviting from the moment we stepped inside the door. Breakfast in the restaurant had lots of great choices and we were charmed by the friendly and attentive waitstaff. The Sylvia Hotel is a wonderful change to the often impersonal newer hotels, and with its location beside English Bay, you just can't beat those amazing sunsets!

Gorgeous hotel right at English Bay (the vine in the summer is stunning). The location can't get better if you want a chilled vibe and wake up next to the beach. The interior is clean and has character, but could do with an upgrade to the furnishings etc to bring it into the modern era.

Enjoyed our stay here. Location is excellent, room was clean and staff were very friendly and helpful. Shower pressure was amazing. We were aware there is no a/c at the hotel but there is a fan and windows that open. However the windows had no screens on them and mosquitoes were coming in so we had to close the windows.
