The drive to the hotel was very confronting for new arrivals in LA. We were scared to get out of the car. When we entered the hotel lobby it was clear that the pictures on Wotif are very different from the reality. We booked 11 months in advance and were given a room that you would expect in a hostel not a VERY expensive hotel. The windows had no double glazing and were difficult to lock so it was extremely noisy and concerning for our safety as the surroundings are dodgy. We rang down to reception to see if there was another option but were told no. They then said because the lift wasn’t working we could check out and get a full refund if we wanted. We found another hotel for the exact same price which was so much better than the awful room we were offered and we left within 30 minutes of attending. Did not even stay, the photos are deceptive and I felt I had put my children at risk with the area. Not recommended at all.

This was mine and my husband's second time staying at this hotel and we love it! We really like the area and there are many great food options just a short walk away. The staff is always amazing and goes above and beyond to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Definitely recommend.

It's very old building. You can hear people walking above. No noise insulation between rooms and floors. Staffs were nice. Location is nice. Bathroom needs to be updated

The location is great, the hotel felt safe, staff seemed overworked but were really friendly and helpful. The room was pretty bare bones but the bed was comfortable. The worst part was the lack of sound insulation - both from the hallway and the street. But easily solved with a white noise app. One accessibility note is that the elevators were unreasonably slow so it's a better experience if you don't mind taking the stairs. I'd stay there again.

The hotel is old but clean. With that said the water doesn’t drain well in the shower/tub. The tub was 1/2 full with my shower water by the time I was done. The hot water doesn’t get very hot at all. The check out is 12 noon but we were woken up by housecleaning @8:30 on a Sunday cleaning the room right above us for two hours. Since the building floors are wood it sounded like they were dragging furniture. It was loud. We know it was housekeeping because we heard the vacuum being ran. Needless to say we were not thrilled because we had a very long day of travel ahead of us.

CJ was really helpful with the booking details, highly knowledgeable about history of the hotel, and experienced with the SMS-based Guest Service. Really appreciate CJ's guidance with the check-in process. The hotel is an incredible restoration of a 1920s building with an Old World entrance and lobby area that's a great spot to meet friends or take photos. In the lobby, there is a well-stocked library for your next reading adventure and a ballroom that is viewable upon request. The wifi is good, too. The bed and bath ofter a restful and restorative experience.
