Only bathrooms have been updated. Rest of room and beds are tired and need updated. Noise level was a bit problematic but likely due to festival going on. Breakfast was very good and staff friendly. Motel is really what this is and is conveniently located to shopping, restaurants and bay. All are within easy walking distance

I visted Santa barbara in July and booked Avania Inn for two days of stay. I and my spouse checked in and were assigned room. The room smelled like urine. Most likely the guests stayed in the room before us had a pet. We immediately reported to the concierge and asked for another room. Instead, he was in denial and said that it it's the cleaning liquid smelling and not the Urine! Also, he said that he can't give us another room as they are fully booked (which turned out to be a lie) The cleaning lady came to the room and sprayed a very strong cleaning spray that made my nostrils dry and still the urine smell did not go away. This second time we realized we don't deserve to live here with room with Urine smell and very strong cleaning spray. We took our bags and went to the concierge for the check out.. This time the concierge said that it seems like a Urine smell and he can transfer us to a different room (THIS TIME THE HOTEL WAS NOT SOLD OUT!).. By this time we were so disappointed and frustrated with the Fraud we simply checked out.. The booking was through Expedia and we had pre-paid for two days. They did not refund us for the first day and they said that they might refund for the second day (the second day refund came through after three hours of constant calls and arguments at the reception) WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY! I DON'T at all recommend this place.

Close to wharf, old building and pool, loud room
like to start positive. The room was clean and relatively large. The beds were comfortable and bedding was clean with good pillows. The location is great - about a 3-4 block walk to the harbor where there is a great coffee place, two diner type restaurants, the famous brophy bros fish restaurant, OTA which is great for lunch, a small fresh sushi restaurant. Great views and lovely walks. Problems: loud. We could hear all staff talking and we could hear everyone going through the lobby at all hours. Parking lot was right against the windows. Our room was on first floor and was a room set up for disabilities which was fine but this means the shower had no lip, flat to floor, and water got all over the bathroom floor. This is a smallish inn which means nothing fancy. Free breakfast was just ok, included powdered eggs, frozen hash browns, standard frozen sausage, packaged oatmeal. I'm not a fan of plastic Utensils and paper plates as it's a huge waste and very behind the times in Environmental issues with these wasteful materials. It is santa barbara, a city known for its environmental strength. Coffee from an automatic machine, so not great at all. The pool is tiny and very old. There are a few inns surrounding this one, you may want to find another one.

The location was great and the room was nice and clean. However, on my first day, a fuse blew when I plugged in the hotel iron and half of the lighting in the room was lost. I notified the hotel staff but it was not fixed during my 4 day stay.

Overnight stop in Santa Barbara
We stayed overnight on route to LA accommodation was very close to waterfront which was very convenient. Great that there was a lift to help with getting luggage upstairs. We had a balcony with chairs so was not confined to the room which was nice. Only downside was you could hear every door open / close so it could be a bit noisy at times during the night.
