On a recent visit to Santa Barbara, we stayed at this moderately priced hotel and were pleasantly surprised by what a great experience it was. The staff were helpful, friendly, and responsive. The facility and grounds are impeccably kept up and clean. Having free on-site parking was a special treat if you travel often to SB - we usually stay downtown, where there are always parking and valet charges.The location is mostly residential, so quiet, but still close to the center city and all the fun (although maybe not walking distance). A couple of things to be aware of: 1) there is no elevator, so if you have mobility issues, request a first floor room, and 2) there is not regular room housekeeping unless you request it.

This is a very old property and we felt that cleanliness was not on a level that we were expecting it to be. It may be due to age of the buildings. The room we stayed was felt to be cleaned by the housekeeping staff,but there was a smell in the rooms and it was not comfortable for us. The carpets were very old and dull. However, the staff were friendly and pleasant. The location is convenient for downtown SB and the beaches.

This was a great location, walkable (if you are up to 1 mile to 1.5 mile walks each way) to food. It felt very safe and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The internet was awesome and the location offered a pool, hot tub and restaurant on site. Although we did not use the pool, hot tub or restaurant, it was obvious they were well used by other guests. The room had all the requests we asked for (downstairs due to lack of an elevator and a bathtub). The bed was very comfortable too! Cons: No elevator for upstairs rooms, rather noisy due to how large the facility is, and the shower head was rather low for my 6 foot tall husband. Overall, great stay.
