Stay was okay. The listing for the room we stayed out had put balcony and mini fridge part of the room and when we asked front desk after we checked out our room said it was by request only, which makes no sense when its listed as part of the room? So we requested it and after an hour and half (and mentioning we had stressed the importance of needing one) they never brought one... So no mini fridge for the cold food we had brought and by the time they could've come we had to leave for our plans. Front desk seemed annoyed with us asking because we are younger women so maybe she thought we didn't know what we were talking about??? Afterwards when going back to the room we saw that the fireplace was still on a setting that made the room reek of gas! Had to open both windows and blast AC that didn't seem to be blowing any air even at the lowest setting. After calling them and having my mother in law call them as well because they didn't seem to bother with me and any requests I had, they told us to call back later because the woman on the phone had no helpful answers for us because of the room issues we were having. At that point I was over it because we wanted to go do stuff out in the area and they still didn't even try to come and check in on us. Okay experience, but for the money we spent to be there for NYE and New Years, I wouldn't come back... Hoping they will reach out to me about some kind of solution.

Disappointing stay at historic San Diego hotel
Booked a room for New Years Eve with my wife. I am long time resident of San Diego and was excited to stay at this historic hotel for the first time. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The hotel definitely looks and feels tired, and staff is not particularly friendly. We did receive a coupon for two free drinks at the hotel bar, but the lobby and bar area were so cold. The bartender was kind enough to position a little heater next to my wife but we both still had to keep our jackets on. The bar would be very charming if it wasn't an ice box! The room was small and in need of renovation. The bed was OK, but pillows were hard. My wife and I both woke up with sore necks. The shower is a small bathtub with a shower curtain. The towels were like sandpaper and that is a pet peeve. This is something you find at a cheap motel. There was just a cheap one cup plastic coffee maker with paper cups. No drinking glasses or coffee cups. Cheap, cheap, cheap all the way. Also, no restaurant, room service, or even coffee in lobby. I don't normally write reviews, but this was such a disappointment. It is shame what has become of this beautiful historic hotel. With some investment and the right management, it could return to its former glory and be a real gem in the Gaslamp of SD.

All the staff was very helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the ease of the valet parking and complimentary drinks upon check-in. We were able to walk to get food and the Petco stadium no problem. Even though it’s right in the heart of Gaslamp it was quiet and such a great location to get to anything.

Great historic hotel
Charming Victorian boutique hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable with a cute balcony overlooking the courtyard. We loved the bar/restaurant in the lobby. The street noise seemed to be amplified by the courtyard, though, making things a bit noisy overnight. The pillows were aggressively overstuffed and springy.

The hotel was nice enough, but the room itself was quite small, especially the bathroom, which was poorly lit, had a broken towel bar and those nasty communal products on the wall which looked like they weren't cleaned thoroughly. Fortunately, I brought my own products. We arrived late, the restaurant was not open, and the front desk was not particularly friendly or knowledgeable about the area. The menu is also extremely limited, so we never even used our discount coupons, nor were we offered the "free water" upon arrival. No morning coffee in the lobby was a bummer. Not much of a social vibe either. Valet parking is very expensive, I recommend not driving or renting a car. The best part about this hotel is that there are many dining options nearby, as well as a trolley which took us right to Snapdragon stadium for $6 roundtrip. Ubers and Lyft drivers are also plentiful and there is much to do within a few miles radius. Many of the restaurants stop serving food early, but keep serving alcohol, which was strange.

What a great hotel stay! From the valet to the front desk everyone was so pleasant and helpful. Its old world charm and beautiful atrium area were so unique. It’s right in the heart of the Gas Lamp District so it makes everything easy and walkable to reach. We can’t wait to come back again!

Friday the 13th Spooky Weekend
We stayed here on Friday the 13th and were delighted because this historic building is known to be one of San Diego's oldest haunted places. Our stay was amazing! Didn't see any ghosts but the spirits were flowing downstairs at the Salt & Whiskey bar! Top notch service. Very personable. Thank you so much! The value was amazing.

The location was amazing! It was only about a 10 minute walk from the convention center, and there were lots of restaurants around to eat at! The service was very nice, and I really liked the daily housekeeping service, it made the room great to come back to. The view from the balcony was great! One small quip I had with my room is that it only had one outlet which was hidden behind a closet, so it was inconvenient to charge my devices. Other than that, I had a great stay here and highly recommend this hotel for when you’re in San Diego.
