I failed to get supplies of coffee pods for my room. Everything else was fine. It's quite a long walk on humid days to the subway, but this is a small thing bearing in mind the economical price.

The property itself is great. However, the surroundings are pretty scary. Lots of homeless people were roaming around, sitting, sleeping, or doing drugs. If you are traveling with kids in the late evening or night, it is very scary. Convenient area, but I probably won’t come back again.

The Wingate is a lovely hotel. The staff is very nice and the rooms are lovely and clean. We had a beautiful view over the river that was lit at night. The hotel is very well situated in the area but surrounding streets seemed rough and unsafe for walking in the evenings. I would stay there again without issues as Ubers were plentiful and picked us up at the front door.

Traveled with our 6 year old kid, and had a pleasant stay for 4 nights. We arrived at 2am from JFK using Uber which cost about $50 and our room was ready with no issues. We let them know in advanced that we would be arriving late. Check in was as smooth as it can get. Room was very spacious more than what we expected. Was perfectly clean. Safety inside closet very convenient. Bathroom huge and everything was new. Very decent Dove brand shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We were not bothered by noise either from street or air conditioning. Bed was very comfortable. If you are lucky you can get city view which is a plus. Had a small fridge. Had a mini bar. Had everything you need to iron. Lot of clean towels that we did not need room service until 3rd day. Very solid curtains that morning light would not bother. Breakfast is very basic and never change but it’s enough to get fueled to start your morning and save some bucks for breakfast. Options for breakfast were: oatmeal, milk, hot water, different cereals, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, tomato, cucumber, apples, bananas, waffles, bread, peanut butter, strawberry jelly, butter, Philadelphia cheese, 3-4 kinds of juice, coffe, meat, yogurts, muffins, and more. Regarding neighborhood, no issues at all. Just two blocks away from metro entrance (there’s elevator very convenient, a little bit smelly but hey, you are in NYC). Just two stops from Times Square. Would definitely be back. Thank you Ali (sales manager) for your kindness.

We really enjoyed the stay. The Amy from front desk was amazing. She’s professional and very friendly. Because of her amazing service I gave 5 stars. Also not to mentioned the breakfast was really good. They have hot breakfast, eggs sausage, waffles, serials and yogurt. So good.

This is a tough one to review: pros: the building, and room, are in great condition; it was quiet, comfortable, and with the right amenities; even when there was a problem, the staff was attentive, and got things solved quite quickly; it's pretty convenient to Manhattan, even though across the river in Queens. cons: this really is - quite literally - in the ghetto; I grew up in rough neighborhoods in NYC, and even I was somewhat shocked at the surroundings. Nothing bad happened, but the area is what most people would understand as a "ghetto". Not judging it, just observing. Be prepared.

Property is fine overall but the area feels really unsafe. From the subway line to the hotel is about 6 min walk but that walk seems like forever. I don't recommend staying here unless you have a rental car where you can park directly in front of the hotel and walk in directly. I travelled on my own and didn't feel safe at all. I had to hide my belongings to make sure nothing happens from my way to/from subway. I ended up using Uber. This isn't my first time in New York either so for those who never been to NYC and decide to stay here as your first place, don't.

My mini-fridge did not work; even when switched the food was only kept at lukewarm temps in it. 2nd night there was no hot water; it was only barely lukewarm. I was told the next day they would have an engineer look at it, wasn't done as still was the same temp when returning. And what I really wanted after a full day of activities and high temps outside was a nice shower to be clean. The bathroom electrical fixture did not work so made a little harder to do my hair. Ended up being switched rooms. The next room had a few outlets that did not work either and the water was just a little above lukewarm - so no nice comfortable shower to relax after a full day of activities. It should be stated it wasn't clear that the rooms throughout the whole hotel only have showers - no baths. I was given a handicap room (not selected) and the water from the shower ended up making its way all over the bathroom floor making it a hazard. It was stated that the room had HBO - the channels never did work when on them. For those who are not aware - the area is surrounded by what some may find a little unfavorable. No close grocery, and the corner grocery stores are very limited on items. The hotel does seem to not fit into the surrounding area.
