Tranquil retreat
Such a beautiful place right on the water, we never wanted to leave. The full kitchen had everything we needed, loved that it was outside. Enjoyed the sunsets and the surfers. Bed was so comfortable. Location was great, out of the main, busy Kona area yet close enough that it was a quick drive.

Sounds of the ocean!
This house is lovely. Very clean, comfortable bed and overall updated well! The ocean was so close! Enjoyed Coffee and a view! Would like to come back in the Summer when the snorkeling would be best. Big swell during our stay prevented us from getting in. Turtles come in to eat here! A few suggestions for the owners might be, way too many door codes. if you left your phone in your room and could not get to your "notes" you get locked out. Maybe make all the doors the SAME code and periodically change them all at the same time. Extra blanket for the bed would have been nice. And larger beach towels would have been nice. Other than these few suggestions, we had a wonderful stay! Mahalo!

Amazing location!
The location of this home is just stunning. We never got sick of sitting in the outdoor living space and watching the surfers. There’s pretty much every amenity you could want, although we wished we had brought an outdoor.

FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS
I cannot rave about this place enough. Wow. Right on the water. Sea turtles. Outside kitchen. Privacy. (You do see fisher people on the rocks, but they stay far away and fish.) Everyday we walked down to the tide pools (a couple of feet away!). We mostly lived outside, only going in to sleep or use the bathroom or watch TV late at night. Also so much is new here: the washer and dryer and oven. Everything was spotless. We also rented a brand new car from the owner using Turo. So easy. Also so peaceful. We never wanted to leave. Ordered take out from Kai’s. Great pizza. Twenty minute walk to Magic’s Beach. Ate dinner there twice. Wonderful. We hope to be able to come back. This was an amazing experience. I cannot imagine anyone coming here and not being blown away by the serenity and astounding beauty. Every moment we were here we reminded ourselves how lucky we were to experience this. Thank you!

Really delightful place. Right in the middle of everything but felt like we were far from the bustle of the Kona. It’s really impossible to explain what a great place this was…I guess saying we actually postponed our return home just to have a few more days should explain it best :)

Location, Location, Location!
This is an amazing property! You open the gate and drive into the patio/carport. From there your view is of Lyman’s point. The cottage is bedrooms and bathrooms, a work area and a small area for watching TV. But everything else is outside on the lanai including the entire well-equipped kitchen. We mostly hung out in the living area on the lanai when we were at the rental. There is a protected “pond” area that is open to the ocean but largely protected right next to the the house. There we were visited several times a day by green turtles. You could walk into the pond and see many many types of fish too. The surf was high while we were there so we got to watch great surfers catching the waves from first light on. We slept to the sound of crashing waves. The main part of the house is like a studio with a walk in closet and bathroom. The other bedroom is not directly accessible from the studio part and can only be entered from an exterior door. The other bathroom also has its own exterior door. We were with our adult daughter so this was not an issue for us. It was tempting to just stay at the house all day. We had a lovely time.

A little slice of Heaven!
Wow! Wow! Wow! This home is truly a little slice of heaven! The pictures don't do it justice. The shore line is right there and we had our own personal tide pool where we could see Sun and Angel fish swimming with schools of little fishes. Each time we left the house to go someplace (like Mahai'ula beach) we came back to the house saying, "This is so much better!!" There is only one neighbor to the north of the house and we rarely heard them. We had one minor issue with a light switch which we contacted the owner and it got fixed the same day. A couple of additional comments for awareness: - The sounds of the ocean. If you are looking for a spot where the gentle swish, swish of the ocean can lull you to sleep, this isn't the place. The configuration of the shoreline is quite rocky and irregular, so the wave action can be quite chaotic. - Getting into the ocean. The little cove that this house sits on is large and fairly shallow. However, getting into the cove can be a challenge as it is rocky and the rocks tend to have sea anemones on them with spikes. If I was doing it again, I would have brought diving gloves of some sort to make it easier to navigate the first few feet into the cove. - If you are planning on cooking. Check the pantry items to make sure you have what you need. It was pretty bare when we arrived, but stocked when we left. - If you are planning on going to Mahai'ula beach. DO NOT attempt the drive in anything but a 4X4 vehicle. It is very unfinished. We had a Tahoe and we were worried at some points. The beach itself has two sections: The part that you can walk to from the parking lot which is quite rocky and wavy. And the part that you can hike to (about 10 minutes) that is a more traditional beach. Very pretty beach, but not very quiet. The beach is directly under the flight path to the airport. - If you are planning on doing any sport fishing, I used Kona Deep Sea charters. I was fortunate enough to land a couple of Mahi and a Yellowtail Tuna! Be aware though, that if you want to take any of your catch home with you that they will only filet one of your fish as long as it is under 100lbs. This is pretty standard as their catch does go to a wholesaler which is how they make the majority of their monies. I had a blast and the Mahi I did bring home was plenty! I think that pretty much covers it! Mahalo!

Wow, just wow!
Without a doubt the most beautiful location in Kona!! This place is magical! Close to town and the best beaches in Kona, world class snorkeling, diving and paddle boarding in the backyard! Communication with Kim was great and timely. Thank you for this spectacular location for our family to enjoy a vacation on the Big Island!

This one will be hard to beat
Our family of three stayed here, while my folks and sister/brother-in-law stayed in a condo about a mile away. We made sure to communicate with the host that we planned to use the house for our family meals and he was very accommodating. As our trip neared, we enjoyed reading the reviews of this house, including a rare less-than-positive review that compares the place to a Bond movie, but starring Timothy Dalton. While that review gave us a good laugh we all agreed the home is more aligned with Sean Connery's Bond. We very much enjoyed meeting Ali and learning about the various artifacts around the property. He was incredibly gracious and the few minor glitches that occurred during our stay were addressed very promptly. The kitchen is very well equipped. The beds are comfortable. The A/C worked well. The star of the show of course is the outdoor living area and we took full advantage of it. In our 7 days, we ate at a restaurant only 3 times because we could find no restaurant with a better view. Of course, with outdoor living comes the occasional outdoor critters, so if you're not up for that, then this may not be our ideal spot. We didn't mind the occasional visits from nature. Our daily excursions were evaluated based on whether they were worth leaving the lanai (three were). With a tide pool, great snorkeling and a surf break in our back yard there was little else we could want (well...maybe a hot tub...that would have put it in the Daniel Craig category).

Pretty disappointing
This place really is located in a great spot. The garden is beautiful and meticulously maintained. The property manager was very attentive and replied very fast. All of this can unfortunately not change the fact that the house is not worth the money. It is old with too little maintenance done over the past years. The AC would not work and even if it would have we would not have switched it on because it is moldy and rusty. Same holds true for a lot of other features in the house. There is rust everywhere and all the furniture in the house is really old and you can see that it has been heavily used. All the sinks do not drain properly. The whole house is just in this state where everything is just a bit mucky. In addition most of the storage is closed and marked as private. Thus, the master bedroom has almost no place to put clothes. The owner obviously occupies 90% of the walk in closet. I wonder why they cannot remove his stuff? Same holds true for the kitchen. There are two large cabinets marked as private and locked and there is only one shelf to store groceries. All the tableware is so unbelievably cheap it almost makes you laugh. I had spoken with the property manager before and she understood my complaints saying that more upgrades will be done in the future. While I appreciate this I believe the proper way of doing this would be to bring this place up to speed and then rent it out. Waiting for complaints and then taking action is just not right. As mentioned, the setting of this place is great. It would have been great to shoot a James Bond movie - but one with Timothy Dalton.

Little piece of heaven.
Communication from the owner and caregiver was prompt. Keep in mind VRBO not the owner will hold your deposit for 5 days after you leave. This place is a solid 4.85 and with a few adjustments could easily be a 5. Little piece of heaven was the perfect description for us, two couples, during our stay for three days February 2019. The location was nice and private. While the water was to rough at the rocks for us to get in and enjoy the water we loved watching the turtles rest in the rocks. We could also see whales breach out away from the bay. Surfers love this area so that was fun to watch too. It was also close to the shops and night life of Kona. The whole unit was nicely stocked and we loved having the kitchen completely under roof outdoors. Very unique. We only prepared breakfast and a few sandwiches but we utilized the island in the kitchen every night as our game table. We hated not to use the beautiful outdoor grill area but our stay was just to short. The only negative in the kitchen area is lack of space for groceries. We were advised to keep food put away when we went to bed or left to prevent rodent or ant issues. ( I can definitely see how that could be an issue but other than some ants in the bathroom that the owner/ caretaker took care of immediately we didn’t have any issues). But we ended up keeping our food in the microwave,fridge and oven because the cabinets were full of dishes etc. There were two additional pantry’s but they were full and locked. A large plastic tub from Costco or one of the pantry’s for renters use could remedy this issue. Bed and bath rooms were nicely presented and furnished. One thing that I would like to make clear, one bedroom entrance is from the the outside at the rear of the house and the bathroom is actually a separate outdoor entrance a few steps away. So when you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom you have to go outside, then go into the bathroom. Luckily for us it only rained one night and while we would come back again it wasn’t the most convenient set up and for me would be totally unusable for children. The outdoor furniture seating is nice but could use some updating. The wood benches are just gorgeous but the uniqueness makes comfort a bit difficult. Only other thing we didn’t anticipate was the remodeling taking place next door with a jackhammer until 9:00 at night. Not the owners fault, but keep it in mind.

Spectacular spot
This property is truly amazing. Everything you need and more. Enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor living space, watching the whales and turtles in a truly natural setting. You feel peace and tranquility the moment you step into this space. Loved every moment.
